Ludington?s city council learned Monday the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will return to Ludington for three more years ? 2013, 2014 and 2015.Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kathy Maclean told the council her board approved the contract with the condition that the council give its blessing. She said the contract includes a clause allowing the chamber to end it if something happens in the future that would cause the community to wish to end the tournament.
Mayor John Henderson asked the council if anyone had an objection to the contract, and no councilor expressed an objection.
Ludington has hosted the tournament for the past 21 years and the new contract could stretch that streak to 24 years.
The dates for the next three tournaments are June 15 and 16 in 2013, June 21 and 22 in 2014 and June 20 and 21 in 2015.
Also on Monday, Maclean informed the council that the 2012 Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament brought nearly $46,000 to local organizations and that the local chamber of commerce has agreed to a new contract that will bring the tournament back for three more years.
Maclean said concessionaires for the 2012 Gus Macker earned $28,955. They are the Andre Bosse Center, Rotary Club of Ludington, Prayer & Praise Assembly of God, American Cancer Society/Relay for Life, Mason County Eastern?s cross country and track teams, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the MCE softball team.
In addition, organizations that worked for the Macker were given the following donations for their work: Ludington, $5,000; Ludington Area Schools, $8,400; Mason County Central, $1,600; Baldwin Community Schools, $1,000; Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters, $1,000.
