Book Review: Australian Women's Weekly Fresh Food Fast | Sassi ...

When you?re looking for a cookbook, every Aussie woman knows there?s no going past The Australian Women?s Weekly. Famed for their classic cookbooks that have a home in every Australian kitchen, they are a go-to for easy, comforting recipes and the release of their latest cookbook, Fresh Food Fast, is certainly no exception.

Fresh Food Fast is based on the concept that eating fresh and tasty food doesn?t have to be an arduous task. The book is broken down into four sections, Starters, Mains, Sides and Desserts, with handy divider tabs.

The book is laid out beautifully ? filled with bright, clear and vibrant photos that will be sure to have your mouth watering. Each section is divided into smaller sections, which aren?t as clearly marked. This doesn?t make too much of a difference in accessing recipes as the book also has a fantastic index at the back.

The Starters section is packed with light dishes that you can whip together in minutes. From a range of pasta dishes, to tasty bruschetta and sweet potato crisps, your next barbeque won?t be complete without them.

The Main sections contains a wide range of summer-appropriate meals. Mouth-watering, new takes on chicken salad, warm Singapore noodles, and even twists on classic lamb chops form a few of the recipes that will keep you well fed all summer long.

The Sides section includes easy to prepare dishes that look impressive when placed on the table. The section includes recipes such as prosciutto wrapped bean bundles, effortless Greek salad and Spicy Roasted Pumpkin Couscous.

The Desserts section is a wonderful homage to original Women?s Weekly recipes. With summery twists on the classic banana split, grilled pineapple and chocolate mousse, you?ll have comfort food in a flash.

The greatest thing about the book is that the nutritional information for each recipe is included. The book also suggests alternatives? to certain ingredients, and offers adjustments for many of their recipes.? The recipes are clean and clear and seriously will have you salivating over the wide variety of tasty easy to prepare meals, bursting with succulent flavourful options. So far we?ve cooked, the coriander and chilli grilled chicken fillets (p187), chicken laksa (p195), sesame chicken salad (p200), and we?re busting to cook this weekend the pumpkin and corn patties (p108).

With summer backyard party season just about to begin, this book is a perfect way to impress the family.

Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon hands-on (video)

DNP Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon handson

Now that Microsoft's officially flooded the world with good tidings of Windows Phone 8, it's the turn of OEMs and carriers to get the word out about their own Microsoft-flavored smartphones. We finally got a chance to play with Nokia's previously leaked and recently announced Lumia 822 for Verizon, a mid-range handset similar to the Lumia 820 on AT&T and the Lumia 810 for T-Mobile that will cost $99 with a two-year contract. Availability is slated for sometime in November -- it's been a long time since we've seen a Nokia device on Verizon (sorry, but those Pantech-built models don't count), so this is rather exciting news.

Spec-wise the Lumia 822 features a 4.3-inch WVGA ClearBlack AMOLED display, an eight-megapixel autofocus Carl Zeiss camera, a 1.2MP front-facing shooter, a Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB or RAM, 16GB of internal flash, microSD support for additional storage, and optional Qi-compatible wireless charging. Radios include CDMA and LTE for Verizon, GSM / GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSPA+ for global roaming, WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, A-GPS and NFC.

In terms of design, the Lumia 822 is much curvier than its siblings and the battery cover doesn't wrap around the sides. The camera pod and flash placement matches the longitudinal setup from the Lumia 920 and Lumia 810 instead of the transverse layout found on the Lumia 820. At 142g (5 ounces) it's quite a hefty device, but despite being 11.2mm (0.44 inches) thick, it feels very nice in hand. Build quality is solid, which is pretty much what you'd expect from Nokia. The phone will be available in three colors: black, white and our favorite, a stunning shade of grey. See for yourself in the gallery below, and peek after the break for our hands-on video.

'Ordered' catalyst boosts fuel cell output at lower cost

ScienceDaily (Oct. 30, 2012) ? Fuel cells, which convert fuel directly into electricity without burning it, promise a less polluted future where cars run on pure hydrogen and exhaust nothing but water vapor. But the catalysts that make them work are still "sluggish" and worse, expensive.

A research team at the Cornell Energy Materials Center has taken an important step forward with a chemical process that creates platinum-cobalt nanoparticles with a platinum enriched shell that show improved catalytic activity. "This could be a real significant improvement. It enhances the catalysis and cuts down the cost by a factor of five," said H?ctor Abru?a, the E.M. Chamot Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, senior author of a paper describing the work in the Oct. 28 issue of the journal Nature Materials. Co-authors include Francis DiSalvo, the John Newman Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, and David Muller, professor of applied and engineering physics and co-director of the Kavli Institute at Cornell for Nanoscale Science.

In a hydrogen fuel cell, a catalyst at one electrode breaks hydrogen atoms into their component protons and electrons. The electrons travel through an external circuit to create an electric current to the other electrode, where a second catalyst combines the incoming electrons, free protons and oxygen to form water. In current commercial fuel cells, that catalyst is pure platinum, which is scarce and expensive. Researchers have tried substituting platinum alloys with varying degrees of success. Previously, the Cornell research team created nanoparticles of a palladium-cobalt alloy coated with a thin layer of platinum that worked like pure platinum at lower cost. Forming the catalyst as nanoparticles -- typically about 5 nanometers in diameter and distributed on a carbon support -- provides more surface area to react with the fuel.

Computer simulations of the catalytic reaction predicted that there should be an increase in catalytic activity if the platinum atoms are pushed a bit together or "strained," as Abru?a describes it. Deli Wang, a post-doctoral researcher in Abru?a's group, devised a new chemical process to manufacture nanoparticles of a platinum-cobalt alloy that included an annealing (heating) step, where the randomly distributed atoms in the alloy form an orderly crystal structure. Rather than just being jumbled together, the metal atoms arrange themselves in an orderly lattice. Platinum atoms layered onto these particles line up with the lattice and are pushed closer together than they would be in pure platinum, with the resulting "strain" enhancing the catalytic activity. Huolin Xin, a graduate student in Muller's group, used a scanning tunneling electron microscope to confirm the structure.

In preliminary tests the new nanoparticles to showed about three and a half times higher catalytic activity (measured by current flow) than similar particles with a disordered core, and more than 12 times more than pure platinum. The new catalysts also are more durable. Fuel cell catalysts lose their effectiveness as platinum atoms are oxidized away or as nanoparticles clump together, deceasing the surface area they can offer to react with fuel. After 5,000 on-off cycles of a test cell, catalytic activity of the ordered nanoparticles remained steady, while that of similar cobalt-platinum nanoparticles with a disordered core rapidly fell off. The ordered structure is more stable, Abru?a said. The platinum skin may be bonded more strongly to the ordered core than to the disordered alloy, so it would be less likely to fuse with the platinum on other nanoparticles to cause clumping. "We have not gone beyond 5,000 cycles but the results up to that point look very, very good," he said.

Know more about how is illustrations done?

There is nothing more complex than humans whose dimensions, expressions, creations, ideas, thoughts, feelings, and actions, among other characteristics, are dynamic. Hence, graphic art is created and as a concept is a means of communication in itself, but sometimes necessary to complement. It serves to clarify, clarify, illustrate, decorate, enhance, among other possibilities, verbal communication.

The recipients of verbal communication and written words are primarily illustrators, artists, cartoonists who understand the world that exists beyond writing. It used to be that artists and designers used simple graphic representations, designed with vector editing software like Adobe Illustrator, to combine statistical information and typography to tell stories but more frequently, digitally illustrated graphic representations are becoming a mode of self-expression that combines quasi-factual information in just minutes to create an amusing and creative effect to any endeavor.

Some artistic undertakings clearly have moved away from data visualization and focus on creative self-expression that use the visual conventions of charts, graphs, and other representations to tell a story or illustrate a point the artist, essentially the central premise of all illustration.

Images not only have a purpose but, often shape a message. The illustration of a message is used in various ways, and has many uses, such as advertising, scientific illustration, literature, including caricatures, cartoons, among other features.

Software has an essential role in the illustrative process with a full range of practical options that can turn an idea into a full blown artistic illustration. The entire spectrum of illustration relies on some sort of software, converting data into dynamic visualizations.

With the rise of the illustrated press, particularly in industrialized countries you will find typographic illustrations and other modalities, such as pencil or pen drawings without requiring the use of computers, photolithography, and others modernisms.

Another area that lately has received a lot of attention in the illustration world is infographics. Infographics are artistic renderings of facts, such as cause and effect illustrations and directional information. These representations are also commonly used to depict interesting maps and chronological information such as trends through the years. In summary, infographics is an exciting venue to transform tedious information into an interesting story.

Selling a Home During the Holidays - The Property Exchange

COLDWELL BANKER? THE PROPERTY EXCHANGE RECOMMENDS USING HOLIDAY SPIRIT TO SELL A HOME AT THE END OF THE YEAR

Cheyenne, Wyoming 10-29-2013 ? The end of the year is not just about holiday shopping, family gatherings and other festive events.? Many people use the time off to move before the New Year.? The professionals at Coldwell Banker The Property Exchange offer the following tips to help sellers maximize their home?s charm and allure during the holidays:

Increase Curb Appeal: First impressions are critical. If the home is in a snowy area, make sure to clear the walkways and driveway.? Remove any late fall leaves, and ensure the path to the stairs is free of ice. Put up a few exterior holiday lights and decorations to display seasonal tidings and pride in ownership. Do not overdo the lighting. Keep it tasteful and consistent with the rest of the neighborhood. A holiday welcome mat outside the front door is also an inviting touch. ?

Keep the House Warm and Welcoming: November, December and January can be cold, so make sure the home is warm and cozy.? If the house has a fireplace, light a fire to bring the room to life and enhance the ambience.? Bake holiday cookies and treats to give the home an enticing aroma.

Decorate the Interior:? It is important not to overwhelm home shoppers with dramatic displays of holiday cheer, so be conservative with holiday decorations.? Decorate to accentuate the house, not to cover it.? Tasteful decorations will help connect buyers to the home, remind them of pleasant memories and help them imagine their own holiday celebrations there.

Remove the Lock Box: On a more practical note, sellers who are entertaining over the holidays should talk to their real estate sales associate about removing the lock box except during designated appointment times. The multiple listing service information may need to be changed to let sales associates know that there is a temporary showing procedure that requires buyers? sales associates to call in advance for an appointment.? It is best if the house is not shown when entertaining family and friends.
?

How to create a fake identity and stay anonymous online

11 hrs.

You don't need to have evil motives for wanting to fake your identity or go incognito online; for many people, it's a matter of privacy and avoiding spammers and scammers. Thankfully, there are a great many tools for staying anonymous online. Here are a few of the best.

The browser's incognito mode
The private browsing mode in Google Chrome, Firefox and other browsers records no information about your browsing, including form data you enter, files you download or history of pages you visit. It's handy for many things beyond porn. To launch a window in private browsing mode, use these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Chrome and Opera: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox, Internet Explorer: Ctrl+Shift+P

For Safari, go to Safari > Private Browsing.

What about mobile devices? Use an alternative mobile browser that will clear your browsing history for you automatically, such as our pick for best web browser on iPhone, Atomic Web Browser, or Android browser top pick, Dolphin.

Private browsing tricks
If you want to open your browser in private mode all the time, add a simple switch to your browser's shortcut.

We've also previously mentioned a Firefox extension called Private Browsing Window, which starts a new private browsing window in Firefox without closing your old ones.

Beyond private browsing: How to clean everything
Even with private browsing mode, traces of your browsing session still stay behind on your computer, ?such as DNS lookups and Flash cookies. Here's how to get rid of those sorts of bits and really browse without leaving a trace.

Proxy servers and VPNs
Although private browsing mode is great for preventing sites from writing trackable cookies and other info to your computer, it doesn't completely make you anonymous. If you want the most assurance that others won't know who you really are, you'll want to use a proxy server and/or a virtual private network connection so you can appear to be someone and somewhere else.

The free Tor software is one of our favorites for anonymizing our online sessions. It routes web requests through multiple tunnels, preventing sites from knowing who or where you are.

If you want to set up your own secure, encrypted system to access on the go, you can do this using?Hamachi and Privoxy, tunneling traffic using your own home computer.

Another alternative is previously mentioned Windows app CyberGhost VPN, which is free for up to six hours of surfing or 1GB of downloading.

Disposable email addresses and anonymous email sending
Disposable email address services hide your real email address and keep the spam out by giving you a temporary email address that forwards to your real one. There are so many different disposable email services to choose from, and we've mentioned quite a few. Spamgourmet is one of the earliest services and still great. You might also like Trashmail, which as we mentioned before, offers Firefox and Chrome extensions for convenience.

When it's time to send an email message or SMS, use a tool such as?previously mentioned?Sharpmail.

Fake identity creators
Trying to stay anonymous can be difficult with all the forms websites require you to fill out. You can make up fake information yourself or, better yet, use something like previously mentioned?Fake Name Generator to create a realistic fake ID that'll fool web forms.

Looking to disappear and establish a new identity in real life? We've got some excerpts from "How to Disappear" that can help you formulate a plan to ditch Big Brother and disappear forever.

This?is a piece writtenfor?Lifehacker's Evil Week,?which?is all about topics such as password cracking, social hacking and other questionable tricks to make sure you're in the know. Knowledge is power, and whether you use that power for good or evil is in your hands.
